WHAT TO BRING

luggage-plane.png

You will want to make the most of your time ashore, so please be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support for cobblestone streets and uneven ground. We also recommend one pair of formal shoes. Sturdy sandals are a good option for daytime wear.

Wrinkle-resistant, easy-care clothing that is color-coordinated so that each garment can be worn with several others (cotton/polyester is lightweight and washes and dries easily). Choose clothes that can be layered to allow for variable temperatures (inside and out) and altitudes.

Everyday slacks, khakis, walking shorts, and everyday skirts/dresses are recommended. "Smart casual" works for most cruise and shore situations, plus one more formal outfit (black tie is not necessary) for special onboard events or an evening at the theatre. Women find that a cocktail dress or two comes in handy no matter the destination; men may want to bring one sport jacket for dressier restaurant venues.

For warmer temperatures, lightweight clothing that can be layered, such as a mix of sweaters, lightweight knit shirts, slacks, and walking shorts. For early spring and late fall departures, sweatshirts, heavier cotton or wool tops, long-sleeved shirts, and corduroy or heavy khaki pants are suitable. Be aware that standards of modesty vary; shorts and bare midriff are not suitable for some shore excursions, even in warm climates.

Additional Suggestions for Your Packing Checklist:
  • Forego valuable jewelry in favor of scarves, shawls, or other accessories that can make a "new" outfit out of a wardrobe of mix-and-match favorites.

  • Outerwear appropriate to the season and destination, such as a warm sweater for evenings, a light jacket or windbreaker (with hood), and a lightweight/foldable raincoat (with removable liner). Pack warm clothing and a heavy coat for winter cruises.

  • Swimwear, including pool footwear

  • Sleepwear, including slippers

  • Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, lotion, foot powder, comb/brush, razor, feminine products, and cosmetics

  • Prescriptions in their original containers plus copies of prescription information-packed separately

  • Medications for upset  stomach, aspirin, cold medicine, vitamins, antiseptic cream, Band-Aids

  • Tissues and antibacterial wipes

  • Prescription glasses or lenses with necessary supplies (pack an extra pair)

  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat

  • Travel alarm clock

  • Converters and adapters for destination

  • Travel umbrella

  • A zippered tote bag or day pack

  • Other: reading materials and book light, camera/film, sketch pad/pens/paint, binoculars, address list for postcards

  • Make a copy of your credit card and passport information pages and pack them separately (you may wish to leave a copy with a trusted family member at home).

  • Make sure that all luggage has identification tags inside and out.

  • Do not put valuables or important medication in your checked baggage; carry them with you in your carry-on bag.

  • Current security regulations require that all liquids/lotions/etc. in your carry-on luggage must be in containers no larger than 3 oz. each and must all fit in a single one-quart clear plastic bag.

Please contact your travel advisor for any additional regulations. Airline baggage restrictions change frequently. Overweight or excess baggage charges may apply. Onboard the ships and motor coaches, the storage space is very limited. One (1) suitcase per person and one (1) carry-on bag per person (excluding purses) are reasonable. Fees may be assessed on-site for excess baggage.
